Mental Health isn’t just a topic; it’s a growing necessity. Increasingly, people are recognizing the importance of mental well-being. Which, in turn, gives rise to the unprecedented demand for mental health professionals. And that’s where the BSc Clinical Psychology (Hons.) program comes in. Introduced by the Rehabilitation Council of India in the 2024-25 academic session, this course was created to train students as Frontline Mental Health Workers. They’re the professionals who promote Mental Health Awareness, Identify Early Signs of distress, and Provide Psychoeducational Support.
What is BSc Clinical Psychology (Hons.)?
It’s a 4-year, full-time, regular honors degree with no midway entry or exit. Unlike other bachelor’s programs in Psychology, this program is uniquely clinical. By the end of the course, students will be eligible to register with RCI as Clinical Assistants (Clinical Psychology).
Course Objectives
The objectives of this program are:
- Build a strong Foundation in Clinical Psychology.
- Train students to be reliable Frontline Mental Health Workers.
- Promote Mental Health Awareness in Schools, Colleges, and Communities.
- Help in early identification and screening for common psychological issues.
- Conduct psychoeducational and awareness programs.
Who Can Apply?
To apply for this course, you must:
- Have completed the 12th standard with the science stream.
- Apply through the Entrance Exams conducted by the respected universities or institutions.

Question: Is BSc Clinical Psychology (Hons.) the same as a regular BA/BSc in Psychology?
Answer: No. This program is specifically approved by the RCI and focuses on clinical application. It prepares you to become a Clinical Assistant, while general B.A./B.Sc programs do not.
Question: Can I become a Clinical Psychologist after this course?
Answer: Not directly. After this course, you will become a Clinical Assistant. To become a licensed Clinical Psychologist, you’ll need to pursue an RCI-approved M.Phil in Clinical Psychology.
Question: Is this BSc Clinical Psychology (Hons.) available to Arts or Commerce stream students?
Answer: No. Only students from the Science stream are eligible to apply.
Question: Can I apply for BSc Clinical Psychology (Hons.) from any university offering psychology?
Answer: No. You must apply only to RCI-recognized institutes to be eligible for Clinical Assistant registration.
