PhD Psychology Admissions at Delhi University 2025

The University of Delhi (DU) invites applications for its PhD Psychology program for the academic year 2025-26.

Eligibility Criteria

For admission in the PhD program, the applicant must fulfil the following criteria:

  • Candidate who has completed 1 year (2 semesters) of master’s program after 4 years (8 semesters) Bachelor’s degree program or 2 years (4 semesters) of master’s degree after 3 years (6 semesters) Bachelor’s degree program or a qualification equivalent to master’s degree from an authorized university with at least 55% aggregate marks.
  • Candidates who have completed a 4-year (8 semesters) bachelor’s program (Honors or Honors with research) with a minimum aggregate of 75% marks or equivalent grade with respect to another grading system.

Seat Distribution

The seats are divided into two phases.

  • Phase I: 60% of total seats
  • Phase II: 40% of total seats
  • Vacant Phase I seats → will be carried over to Phase II

Method of Selection

The university will conduct PhD Psychology admissions in two phases based on the following criteria:

  • The university considers National Eligibility Test (NET) scores, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), for admission to the PhD Psychology program.
  • There will be 3 categories for admission to PhD:
    • Category 1 – eligible for admission to PhD with JRF and appointment as an Assistant Professor,
    • Category 2 – eligible for admission to PhD without JRF and appointment as an Assistant Professor, and
    • Category 3 – Eligible for PhD program only.
  • For Categories 2 & 3, the validity of the UGC/CSIR NET score is 1 year.
    • Therefore, Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR NET in December 2024 & June 2025 will be eligible for Phase 1.
    • For Phase 2, the eligibility will be Candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR NET June 2025 and December 2025.
  • The Merit List will be drawn based on the following:
    • 70% weightage will be given to scores obtained in the NET Exam, and 30% will be given to Interviews.
    • It’ll apply to all the categories, i.e. Categories 1, 2 & 3.
    • In each phase, the university gives first preference to candidates from Category 1. If seats remain vacant, it then considers candidates from Categories 2 and 3 based on merit.
