National Forensic Science University: Admission Criteria 2026-2027

The National Forensic Science University (NFSU) has announced revisions to its admissions policy for 2026–2027 onwards. The admission will now be on the basis of All India Level / National Level Admission CAT, CLAT, GATE, JEE, CUET, and others. Common University Entrance Examination for PostGraduate (CUET – PG) would be considered for master’s program courses.

This is a shift from the university’s own entrance examination, National Forensic Admission Test (NFAT), which used to take place for admissions till academic year 2025-2026. Therefore, instead of a separate exam, the university changed the admission process to an All India level or National level examination.

The aspirant could now apply to the NFSU website for admission by entering the scores of the above-described examination, which would be considered for their admission. 

NFSU 

The Government of India, under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), founded the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in 2009. It was established by the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, then Chief Minister (CM) of Gujarat, and recognized by an Act of the Indian Parliament.

The University was previously known as Gujarat Forensic Science University. It is the first forensic science-focused university in the world dedicated to investigative science, forensic science, criminology, and covering areas of Psychology.

The university offers various subjects in multidisciplinary fields. NFSU has multiple campuses across India: Gujarat, Delhi, Goa, Bhopal, and Pune. Guwahati, Manipur, Dharwad, and Tripura. The University also has an international campus in Uganda, 2023. 

The vision of the universe is to train professionals to carry out research in the area of Criminology, forensic science, crime investigation, and behavioral Sciences in order to bridge the shortage of experts in the country. 

Post Graduate Programs Offered 

The university consists of various postgraduate programs & courses under the schools Behavior Sciences. The duration of all the PG courses is 2 years. The PG programs are offered by Gandinagar (Gujarat) and the Delhi Campus. The school has the following courses given by the University :

  • MA Clinical Psychology (RCI approved)
  • MSc. Neuropsychology 
  • MA Applied Psychology 
  • MSc. Forensic Psychology 
  • MA criminology 

Seat Intake 

The following are the number of seats offered by the University with respect to the courses offered 

1. MA Clinical Psychology (RCI Approved)

  • Gandhinagar – 12 +1 (EWS)
  • Delhi – 10+1 (EWS)

2. MSc. Neuropsychology 

  • Gandhinagar – 30

3. MSc. Clinical Psychology 

  • Gandhinagar – 50
  • Delhi – 50 

4. MSc. Forensic Science 

  • Gandhinagar – 40

5. MA Criminology 

  • Gandhinagar – 40
  • Delhi – 40

The admission process of the above-described program would now be CUET-PG 2026 (HUQP20), except for MA Criminology, for which admission criteria are CUET‑PG 2026 (SCQP10). 

Eligibility Criteria 

The following are the eligibility requirements for various programs under the Department of Behavioral Sciences –

1. MA Clinical Psychology (RCI License) 

4 Years B.A./B.Sc. A degree in Psychology from a university recognised by the UGC with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks. For the SC/ST category, a minimum aggregate of 50% marks is required, as per Government Rules. 

The aspirants who have completed their 3-year Graduation program need to pass a 4th-year Bridge course or the first year of Masters Programme in psychology with a minimum of 55% marks.

Note – It has not been clearly stated that this eligibility criterion will continue for admission of academic year 2026-2027 onwards. It may be subject to change at a later stage. For the latest updates, please keep checking the NTA official website. 

2. MA Applied Psychology and MSc Forensic Psychology 

Bachelor’s degree from Arts/ Science in Psychology OR equivalent from a recognized university with minimum 55% marks in aggregate. (50% or equivalent marks for SC/ST and PwD category).

3. MA Criminology 

Bachelor’s degree from any discipline or equivalent from a recognized university with a minimum 55% marks in aggregate. (50% or equivalent marks for SC/ST and PwD category). Therefore, the admission procedure for all the above PG programs will be the CUET-PG entrance examination. 

CUET-PG Entrance Exam 

The exam shall be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. The entrance would be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) with 75 questions, for which aspirants would be given 1 hour and 30 minutes or 90 minutes. The subject code for psychology is CUET-PG 2026 (HUQP20).

The medium of the paper could be chosen by aspirants between Hindi and English. The entrance examination would be handled by Nthe ational Testing Agency (NTA). 

Marking scheme

Each question carries four (4) marks. For every correct answer four (+4) would be given to the candidate and for every incorrect answer (-1) would be considered as the negative marking. For any unanswered or unmarked, or marked as reviewed questions, no marks would be allocated.

  • Upload the required documents 
  • Pay the registration fee through online mode of payment
