M.Phil. Clinical Psychology 2026–27: RCI-Approved Institutions in India

The Delhi High Court’s 2026 judgment on MPhil Clinical Psychology changed an important part of the conversation around the programme. While the Court did not simply declare that M.Phil. admissions had been universally restored, it directed the UGC and the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) to recognize, recommence, or continue the M.Phil. Clinical Psychology programme for eligible students from the 2026–27 academic session. The judgement therefore addressed the legal and transitional rights of students who were already on the earlier academic pathway, while leaving the practical question of implementation to the regulators and institutions.

That leaves students with a very practical question: If M.Phil. Clinical Psychology is to continue for the students covered by the judgement, which institutions are actually approved to offer it?

The answer is not as straightforward as looking up an old list of M.Phil. institutions. The transition to the new M.A. Clinical Psychology (M.Clin.Psy.) framework means that some institutions have already moved away from M.Phil., while others still appear in the latest RCI records with M.Phil. approval. The RCI’s latest list, updated up to September 3, 2026, therefore provides an important picture of where the programme currently stands.

In this article, we have used the latest RCI-approved institutions list as the starting point to identify institutions that have M.Phil. Clinical Psychology approval. An institution appearing in the RCI list does not, by itself, mean that it is accepting applications for the 2026–27 session. Where possible, current admission notifications and institutional announcements should therefore be checked separately before applying.

So, if you are among the students affected by the transition and are trying to understand where M.Phil. Clinical Psychology may still be available, here’s the latest information based on the recent data available from the RCI.

Important: This is an RCI approval-based list, not an admission list. An institution appearing here means that the RCI’s latest published record shows MPhil Clinical Psychology approval extending into 2026–27 or beyond. It does not by itself confirm that the institution has opened applications, is conducting an M.Phil. batch in 2026–27, or is accepting applications. For more information, please check in with the respective institution’s admission portals and/or enquire with them directly.
