Course Durations & Number of Seats for the Offered Programs

SPPU Pune offers two non-RCI master’s programs in Psychology:

  • MA in Psychology
    • Course Duration: 2 years
    • Number of Seats: 40
  • MA in Psychology (self-supporting course)
    • Course Duration: 2 years
    • Number of Seats: 60

Eligibility Criteria for the MA Psychology Program

Candidates applying for either the MA in Psychology or the MA in Psychology (Self-Supporting) program at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must hold a BA or BSc degree in Psychology from a recognized university.
  • Psychology practicals must have been included as part of the undergraduate course.
  • Preference may be given to candidates who completed their degree through the regular mode of study.

NOTE: Students from distance or open universities are advised to carefully verify whether their undergraduate Psychology curriculum included practical components, as preference is given to regular-mode graduates.

Important Note for Final-Year Students

Candidates who are currently appearing for the final year of their qualifying degree program are also eligible to apply for the Online Entrance Examination (OEE).

However, their admission will remain provisional and will be confirmed only after successfully passing the qualifying examination and fulfilling all eligibility requirements at the time of admission.

Method of Selection and Entrance Exam Pattern

Admission to the MA Psychology and MA Psychology (Self-Supporting) programs at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is conducted through the university’s Online Entrance Examination (OEE).

  • Candidates are admitted strictly based on merit obtained in the entrance examination.
  • The Online Entrance Examination (OEE) is conducted for 100 marks with a duration of 2 hours. The paper primarily consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
  • The examination consists of two sections, conducted together:
    • Section A: General Knowledge, Aptitude, Logic, and Comprehension – 20 Marks
    • Section B: Subject-Specific Questions based on the prescribed Psychology syllabus – 80 Marks

Negative Marking

  • SPPU follows a negative marking system wherever applicable. For every incorrect answer, 1/4 (one-fourth) of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted.

Merit List Preparation

The final merit list is prepared based on the combined scores of Sections A and B of the OEE. In case two or more candidates secure equal marks:

  1. Preference is given to the candidate scoring higher marks in Section B (Subject-Specific Questions).
  2. If the tie still continues, merit is determined based on the candidate’s marks in the subject-specific portion of the qualifying examination.

Application Process and Fee

Candidates seeking admission to the MA Psychology and MA Psychology (Self-Supporting) programs at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) must complete the online application process through the university admission portal.

Documents Required for Application

Applicants must upload scanned copies of the following documents while filling out the online application form:

Academic Documents

  • Candidates must upload the marksheet of the qualifying examination
  • If the university has not yet declared the final semester/year result, candidates must upload the marksheet of the latest semester they have passed.
  • Candidates must produce the final marksheet of the qualifying examination at the time of admission.

Category & Reservation Documents (If Applicable)

  • Caste Certificate issued by the Government of Maharashtra.
  • Valid Non-Creamy Layer Certificate issued by the Government of Maharashtra (applicable for categories other than SC, ST, and EWS).
  • UDID Certificate for Divyang (PwD) candidates.
  • Orphan Certificate issued by the Divisional Deputy Commissioner, Women & Child Development Department, Government of Maharashtra.

IMPORTANT NOTE: As per the Government of Maharashtra rules, the university treats candidates belonging to reserved categories from states other than Maharashtra under the Open/General category for admission purposes.

Application Fee

Candidates applying for the Online Entrance Examination (OEE) must pay the prescribed application fee while submitting the online form. The application fee for a single course/program is as follows:

  • General Category: Rs 800
  • Reserved Categories: Rs 600

Candidates applying for multiple programs must pay the application fee separately for each course.

Mode of Payment

Candidates must pay the application fee online through the university portal using available digital payment methods such as:

  • Debit Card
  • Credit Card
  • Net Banking
  • Other online payment options provided by the portal

Students should keep the payment receipt and transaction details safely for future reference during the admission process.

Important Instructions for Applicants

  • Candidates do not need to submit printed copies of the application form or uploaded documents to the university after completing the online submission process.
  • However, candidates must produce all original documents to the concerned department during the admission process.
  • The university will reject incomplete applications, applications without the required documents, or forms submitted after the deadline.
  • The university generally does not allow candidates to correct or modify the submitted online application form after submission.
